The newly minted John Cain Family Softball Field opened its gates for the first time on February 1, 2015, for the A&M-Commerce doubleheader against St. Edward's in the softball program's first game of its inaugural season. The Lions picked up a pair of wins in that series, prevailing 3-0 and 9-3.
The stadium seating, comprised of general admission and reserved seats, holds 800 with extra room for standing, including a picnic berm in center field which opened in the 2019 season.
The facility includes three covered turf batting cages complete with hitting stations. The dugouts are in-ground down each baseline with protective netting in front of each and include restroom facilities. Turf bullpens are outside the dugouts on each baseline.
The surface is turf with the A&M-Commerce Lion head prominently featured in center field. The infield is unique with its dark blue color. The dimensions of the playing surface are 190 feet down the line and 220 feet at center field.
The facility hosted the 2019 and 2021 NCAA Division II South Central Regional tournaments, and has hosted numerous high school postseason games and camps.
